30 Days of Honesty: Day 9

When the cashier gives me this amount of money for change I know it’s too much money to dump in the charity bucket…

This depends more on the cause and how much money I have in the bank and in my pocket.  I will not donate to Susan G Komen under any circumstance. However if it is a worthy cause and I’m going to be able to pay my bills afterwards, it doesn’t make a difference.  If you have it to give, I think you should be willing to give it.

  1. May I ask the reason not to give to Komen? I agree 100% but I just want to see if you would be willing to share your reasons. If not, that is okay too.

    1. I feel like Komen has become more big business and politics; than a charity. In college a friend of mine who was a pro football player whose Mom died of cancer, organized a party to raise money for cancer research. On his flyers and radio commercial it said “Party for the Cure”. Apparently Komen has trademarked the term “for the cure” so he recieved letters from Komen’s lawyers demanding that he take the phrase off of all his publications and out of his radio ads, and not use it in the future. Mind you that this party was only advertised for about 3 weeks prior to the actual event, so I’m sure it did no harm to the larger organization. As a matter of fact it probably would not have been a big deal had they just asked if he could say that there was affiliation to thier organizaiton, This happened 2 years ago and the icing on the cake was the Planned Parenthood fiasco earlier this year.

Don't make me think I'm writing to myself...What do you think???
